FBI erases infamous Qakbot botnet using its own servers
The "Qakbot" botnet, a network of infected computers used by hackers to attack governments and businesses around the world, has been dismantled and destroyed. So claims United States Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray, who delivered the news via a short video announcement attached to a press release. According to the FBI, a new technique redirected the botnet's traffic to Bureau-controlled systems, which were then able to remotely uninstall it from hundreds of thousands of infected computers. Bleeping Computer goes into more detail on the actual mechanism used. This particular botnet has been used in 40 or more ransomware attacks, notably targeting government infrastructure and healthcare providers, shaking down victims by locking critical systems and stealing personal data then extorting payment via hard-to-trace cryptocurrency.

Could machine learning refresh the cloud debate?
Welcome to The TechCrunch Exchange, a weekly startups-and-markets newsletter. It's inspired by the daily TechCrunch column where it gets its name. Should early-stage founders ignore the never-ending debate on server infrastructure? Up to a point, yes: Investors we talked to are giving entrepreneurs their blessing not to give too much thought to cloud spend in their early days. But the rise of machine learning makes us suspect that answers might soon change.
Building Chatbots with Python - Programmer Books
This book begins with an introduction to chatbots where you will gain vital information on their architecture. You will then dive straight into natural language processing with the natural language toolkit (NLTK) for building a custom language processing platform for your chatbot. With this foundation, you will take a look at different natural language processing techniques so that you can choose the right one for you. The next stage is to learn to build a chatbot using the API.ai platform and define its intents and entities. During this example, you will learn to enable communication with your bot and also take a look at key points of its integration and deployment.
Stanford CoreNLP
The classpath must include all of the CoreNLP dependencies. The memory requirements of the server are the same as that of CoreNLP, though it will grow as you load more models (e.g., memory increases if you load both the PCFG and Shift-Reduce constituency parser models). A safe minimum is 4gb; 8gb is recommended if you can spare it. If running the server under docker, the container's port 9000 has to be published to the host.
Fans set to launch new classic World of Warcraft server this month
At the end of August, Blizzard released Legion, the sixth expansion for its long-standing fantasy MMO World of Warcraft. One contingent of the game's fans probably didn't buy it: The 800,000-strong players who maintained an expansion-free "vanilla" version of the game on their own server, Nostalrius, until the megastudio shut it down last April. Some hope remained while Blizzard pondered whether to launch their own "pristine" servers without expansion content or third-party add-ons. But fans tired of waiting for a studio-blessed Legacy iteration of the game have once again created their own server, Elysium, which is set to go live on December 19th. The new server won't have anything new, which is the point: Players will enjoy a version of World of Warcraft rolled back to 2006, just before the launch of the first expansion The Burning Crusade.

This key is saved to the file /tmp/corenlp.shutdown
Warcraft fans' fury over server closure
A petition to allow gamers to run their own servers for the original World of Warcraft (WoW) game has attracted almost 100,000 signatures online. Games studio Blizzard Entertainment no longer operates servers for the original WoW, which was first released in 2004, so some fans run their own. On 10 April, a popular fan server known as Nostalrius, with 150,000 active members, was closed after the threat of legal action by Blizzard Entertainment. World of Warcraft is an online multi-player game in which players explore a vast landscape, complete quests and interact with other gamers. The original game from 2004 has since been updated with new instalments that some players say have materially changed the experience of the game, so some fans have set up their own servers to play the original, "vanilla" WoW.
